Update from Paul Riley, principal of haywards heath college

I’m very aware that the impact of Coronavirus is affecting us all as we stay at home and move to remote learning, but I wanted to take this opportunity to reassure you that we at the Chichester College Group are still working towards the opening of the Haywards Heath College campus this September.
We’ve been very pleased to see so many students applying to the college from across Mid Sussex and beyond, and our interview team have been really impressed by the students we’ve met at Course Guidance Meetings, both in local schools and at the college itself; the students have been a credit to themselves, their families and their schools.
We are acutely aware, however, that we still have more students to interview and we are finalising a solution to complete these as soon as possible by phone. We will be in contact with you if this applies to you.
Your Grades
I know many of you will have concerns about your grades and how this might impact your course choices when you enrol. I want to reassure you that the Government have made it clear that grades for Year 11 students will be finalised in July 2020, which will provide us with the evidence to support your progression to college. As soon as they are able, we are sure your individual school will provide you with guidance as to how your grades will be awarded.
Completing 'Getting Ready For' Packs
After the Easter break, we’ll be publishing ‘Getting Ready For' packs for every subject area. We’ll be asking you to complete this pack of work for the subjects you’ve been offered/intend to study and to hand it in to your teacher at the beginning of term - week beginning Monday 14 September 2020. We’ll give you more information when we publish the packs on the college website.

The College Campus
Work is continuing on site to prepare the new building for opening as planned and to prepare the wider campus environment - including sports pitches and landscaping of what will be our new learning environment.
First Appointments Announced
Our fantastic facilities will be matched by outstanding teaching and support staff to deliver our services to students. We've been delighted to appoint Ben Frier, as Vice Principal, and Cris Mummery, Head of Learning. Both bring a wealth of skills and experience to the outstanding team that will be in place to support you in the coming academic year.

Recruiting Our Teachers
The first stage of teacher recruitment was completed on the 31st March, with candidates engaging in a series of telephone interviews. Thereafter, until the government lifts the current social distancing guidance and re-opens schools and colleges, we will be deploying remote communication technologies to complete our recruitment between the 20th April and 31st May 2020.
