UAL Foundation Diploma in Art & Design (Photography)
COURSE OVERVIEW
Embark on an inspiring year of photographic exploration designed to unlock your creative potential and prepare you for progression to university or employment in the creative industries. This course offers a rich blend of practical experience, critical thinking, and contextual understanding, helping you develop a confident and professional approach to photography.
Working within our vibrant Visual Arts department, you’;ll engage in hands-on workshops, independent projects, and industry-led assignments that challenge you to find inventive solutions and refine your personal style. Historical and contextual studies underpin your practical work, encouraging deeper insight and critical reflection.
A key feature of the course is its focus on vocational skills through real-world, industry-based projects. These experiences build your confidence and equip you with the tools needed to thrive in higher education or the fast-paced creative sector.
FURTHER INFORMATION
You can join this course if you have at least one A-Level at grade C in an art and design subject and a portfolio of your creative work. You will be asked to attend an interview where you will be expected to present a portfolio of current or recent photography work demonstrating your interest, enthusiasm, and commitment to undertaking photography at this level. This course is open to school/college leavers and learners 19+.Applicants should have ideally studied Photography and/or Graphic Communication to C grade standard or equivalent.
The foundation course is an established progression route to higher education photography specialised study. This course has an excellent track record of placing students at prestigious universities and art colleges throughout the UK.
The majority of students use this course as a stepping stone into higher education. Employment in the art and design industry normally requires applicants to have studied at FdA or degree level. University level courses at CCG include the Northbrook College FdA/BA in Photography.
Assessments are based around ‘real-life’; projects and industry or workplace scenarios. Your final grade will be awarded as pass, merit or distinction.
You will be expected to pay a £150 studio fee as part of your enrolment on the course to cover the cost of resources. You must own either a digital and film 35mm DSLR camera.
