COURSE OVERVIEW
This course is an opportunity to develop your skills in the use and application of the English language. If English is your first language this is probably the most important basic qualification to have to enhance your employability and to support further study in a large range of subjects. This course is specifically designed for people needing to improve their grade in GCSE English. You will have the opportunity to be placed in a learning environment which introduces you to the key skills needed in the exams. You will then be able to develop these skills over a longer period of time. If English is not your first language you should consider our course in ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages). You will develop your reading, writing and speaking and listening skills. You will study a range of different fiction and non-fiction texts from different time periods. You will develop your skills in writing for different purposes and audiences. Lessons include group work and individual work, as well as class discussions.
FURTHER INFORMATION
You need a minimum of four GCSEs at grade 3 or above including a 3 in English Language. Ability to draw on your English skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening -; from GCSE English at school or equivalent.
You would normally combine GCSE English with a Level 2 BTEC depending on your existing qualifications. All university courses, many college courses, as well as many employers, require you to have a minimum standard (often grade 4) in GCSE English and this course will help you to progress towards this achievement.
You will be assessed by two exams at the end of the year. You may complete one speaking and listening assessment depending on your prior achievement.
