Supporting your young person
We know how important the involvement and support of parents and carers is to our students. We believe that a close partnership with our students’ parents and carers can have a very positive effect on the students’ overall performance at college. Here you’ll find lots of information that might be helpful to you, either as a parent or carer with a young person already studying at the College, or with a young person considering applying here.
At the Haywards Heath College we believe it’s our job to celebrate ambition, unlock potential and transform lives – with the help and support of our students’ parents and carers. Whatever needs a student has, there is always someone here at the College to support them.
College Connect
College Connect is our online portal for parents and carers which allows you to track the progress of your young person at college. You will be able to see what courses they are enrolled on, timetables, attendance data, mark book grades and progress reports. We also store any general communications with parents and carers on this site.
We will contact parents and carers early in the Autumn Term with instructions about how to register on the site. Students are given an access code which they need to give to whichever parent / carers they wish to access the site.
Additional Learning Support
If you have a learning difficulty or disability, our Additional Learning Support team is on hand to support you through your time at the College. Working with you, we will make reasonable adjustments to our services to ensure college is an enjoyable and rewarding experience.
Careers Advice
Students are encouraged to visit the Progression + Centre, where specially-trained staff are on hand to provide careers advice, CV writing and interview tips, as well as guidance on routes into Apprenticeships. Students can also email progressionplus@chichester.ac.uk.
Haywards Heath College Counselling Service
The college counselling service provides free, confidential and non-judgemental weekly counselling with a qualified counselling professional who is an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). The counselling service works in accordance with the BACP ethical framework. The service is available for all students and is easy to access by completing a confidential online referral form. The form can be found on the Counselling Teams Channel, which can be accessed by all students.
Parents’ Evenings
The parent/carer evening is the perfect opportunity to meet your child’s subject tutors and student tutor to discuss their progress. It is an excellent opportunity for tutors to address any problems or difficulties that your child may be experiencing and we strongly recommend that you attend.
Progress Reviews
During the autumn and spring terms, subject tutors meet with students to review their progress, attendance, punctuality, attitude to learning and ability to meet deadlines. Students will be given clear advice on what they need to do to advance towards their target grade, with any necessary support put in place where there are concerns about attainment.
Student Tutors
The team of Student Tutors monitor the progress, attendance and wellbeing of students during their time at college. Students will have three 1:1s a year with their Student Tutor.
Where concerns are raised about a student’s progress or behaviour, students are placed on referral where they are met on an individual basis and given opportunities to overcome any barriers to learning and achievement.
