COURSE OVERVIEW
This introductory photography course is designed for students interested in learning the fundamentals of both digital and film photography. It covers essential concepts, technical skills, and creative approaches, combining digital photography techniques with classic darkroom practices. Students will gain a thorough understanding of camera operations, composition, lighting, and image processing through both digital editing software and traditional darkroom techniques.
By the end of the course, students should be able to:
- Operate both digital and film cameras with an understanding of core settings like ISO, aperture, and shutter speed.
- Understand and apply foundational principles of photography, including composition, exposure, and lighting.
- Develop, process, and print images in a darkroom environment, gaining hands-on experience with film photography.
- Edit and enhance digital images using basic photo-editing software to adjust exposure, contrast, and colour balance.
- Analyse and critique photographic work, developing an artistic eye and personal style.
FURTHER INFORMATION
This course is offered to anyone 19 years old and above.
An intermediate and/or advanced course may be offered in April subject to demand.
Throughout the course, students will:
- Complete weekly assignments to practice both digital and darkroom skills
- Participate in critiques for peer feedback and instructor guidance
- Submit a final project that showcases their best digital and darkroom work
