STEM Gold: Haywards Heath College Students secure prestigious award  

A group of talented A-level students from Haywards Heath College are celebrating an outstanding achievement as they secure a prestigious national STEM award.

The nationally recognised Gold Level Industrial Cadets Award from the Engineering Development Trust, celebrates exceptional contributions to STEM and is highly regarded by leading universities and employers across the engineering and technology sectors. 

The award highlights the student’s dedication, creativity and innovation in STEM and follows an exciting six-month project in partnership with global industry leaders Edwards. 

An intensive industrial and academic project, it saw the students research, design, develop, test and evaluate a prototype scroll vacuum pump for leak testing. 

The students gained invaluable hands-on experience in one of the world’s most advanced technology sectors through industry site visits, university workshop days, engineering design and development, advanced technical research and 
prototype testing and evaluation. 

Haywards Heath College thanked the fantastic mentors from Edwards for their guidance and inspiration throughout the programme.  The college also recognised the incredible support of their teacher, Katren Bishop, whose encouragement and commitment helped guide the students throughout the project. 

The team will next present its work at the Regional Engineering Conference this July at University College London.
