First Class: Haywards Heath College Students' Inspiring Visit to the University of Oxford

Students gained a valuable insight into life at one of the world’s most prestigious universities during an inspiring visit to St John’s College, University of Oxford.

The group enjoyed a tour of the college, gaining valuable insight into university studies, life at Oxford and the application process for one of the UK’s leading universities.

The day began with an introductory talk, giving students a clearer understanding of the requirements and expectations involved in applying to Oxford.

Students also took part in a personal statement workshop, where they were able to ask questions, receive feedback on their draft applications and learn more about what makes a strong university application.

A highlight of the visit was a guided tour of St John’s College, including its historic buildings and library.

Led by current Oxford undergraduates, the tour gave students an insight into university life, academics and extracurricular opportunities. Students also enjoyed lunch in one of the college’s historic dining halls.

Dawn Slater, Lecturer in Media Studies at Haywards Heath College, said: “The visit was both informative and motivating, giving students the opportunity to explore an internationally renowned university and gain greater confidence in their future plans.

“It was fantastic to see students engaging with the experience, asking questions and considering what they might be able to achieve through hard work and ambition.

“We would like to thank the staff and students at St John’s College for their warm welcome and for providing such a valuable and memorable experience for our students.

“Following the success of this visit, we are already looking forward to returning in Spring 2027.”
