Our range of leisure and hobby courses keeps growing, with even more fun and exciting courses starting throughout 2023.
COURSE OVERVIEW
This course is an opportunity to develop your skills in the use and application of mathematics. This will be an important step towards enhancing your employability and to support further study in a large range of subjects. The course is specifically designed for people needing to improve their grade in GCSE mathematics. You will have opportunity to be placed in a learning environment which introduces you to the key skills needed in the exams. You will then be able to develop these skills over a longer period of time. GCSE Mathematics covers number, algebra, ratio and proportion, geometry, statistics and probability. The new GCSE exam also has an enhanced emphasis on problem solving. This course will cover the same topics but will give you the opportunity to develop skills at your own pace. A range of teaching styles will be used including group and individual work, class discussion, investigative work and solving problems individually or in groups. We try to make lessons different from the GCSE Mathematics lessons you had at school.
FURTHER INFORMATION
You need a minimum of four GCSEs at grade 3 or above including a Grade 3 in GCSE Maths.
Many career, apprenticeship and higher education entry requirements require a grade 4 (or grade C) or above in Mathematics and this course will help you to progress towards this achievement.
There are three exams in May and June 2021. All three exams cover all of the course content (one exam is non-calculator).
TBC
We will build on the knowledge you already have from studying GCSE Maths (or functional skills). We will assess your prior knowledge and skills at the start of the course so that we can focus on the areas you need to improve.
