A warm welcome: German twin town students enjoy inspiring visit to Haywards Heath College

28 April 2026

Haywards Heath College was pleased to welcome a group of students and staff from Germany to take a look at daily life at a UK further education college.

Haywards Heath College welcomed a group of staff and students from Annette‑Kolb‑Gymnasium in Traunstein, Germany

The visitors from Annette‑Kolb‑Gymnasium in Traunstein were given a guided tour of the campus, allowing them to explore the facilities and see college life first-hand.

As part of the recent visit, students also participated in an A-level Geography lesson, allowing them to experience teaching and learning in an English classroom environment and to develop their understanding of post‑16 study in the UK.

Reflecting on the visit, Vera Grünes, Teacher at Annette‑Kolb‑Gymnasium, described it as “a great experience for my students” highlighting how valuable it was for them to see a different education system in action and to engage directly with students in another country.”

She spoke positively about the opportunities for discussion and exchange during the day and concluded: “Let’s keep in touch.”

The visit concluded with a joint reflection and discussion session, providing space for informal conversation, questions, and the sharing of perspectives on education in both the UK and Germany.

This supported meaningful cultural exchange and helped to strengthen connections between students from both countries.

The visit forms part of the ongoing international partnership linked to Haywards Heath’s twin‑town relationship with Traunstein, supporting cultural understanding and international collaboration.

Commenting on the visit, Cris Mummery, Head of Learning at Haywards Heath College, said:

“What really stood out was how valuable it was to talk openly about their experiences of education in Germany and the UK. Comparing different systems, routines and expectations gave all involved a genuine insight into studying beyond their own classrooms.”

The visit forms part of the ongoing international partnership linked to Haywards Heath’s twin‑town relationship with Traunstein, supporting cultural understanding and international collaboration.

The College was delighted to host the group and looks forward to continuing to develop these valuable links.
