Haywards Heath College Sports Students Lend A Hand at Rugby Club’s Coaching Event

14 October 2026

A group of students have been praised for helping out at a rugby coaching event for primary school children at Haywards Heath RFC.

Haywards Heath College Sports Students volunteered at a local rugby club's coaching day for Yr5 schoolchildren

Year 1 Double Sports students visited the club last week to support the event for year five primary schoolchildren from schools in the local area.

Working alongside the club’s coaches, the students helped deliver a series of engaging rugby drills designed to develop the children’s skills, confidence and enjoyment of the game.

They also took on the responsibility of refereeing small-sided tag rugby matches, helping the young players put their skills into practise in a fun and supportive environment.

Throughout the event, the college students demonstrated excellent leadership, communication and coaching abilities. They encouraged participation, supported the younger players and helped ensure the activities ran smoothly.

Tom Wood, Lecturer in Sport at Haywards Heath College, said: “Their enthusiasm, professionalism and commitment were evident throughout the day, and they represented Haywards Heath College exceptionally well.

“The event provided a valuable opportunity for the students to develop their own practical coaching experience while making a positive contribution to the local community.”

For more information about a wide range of courses at Haywards Heath College, please come along to an open event this Monday (19th October). There are also further open events on Tuesday, 10th November and Tuesday 16th March.
